Sister’s dancing together through lockdown

When dance studios closed down in March 2020, two sisters used it as an opportunity to ensure they saw each other each week. Linda Maxfield a regular attendee at Xpress-Yourself Keep Dancing classes fully supported the move to dancing from home on Zoom as soon as classes were made available. Linda’s continued support meant a phone call to her sister, Barbara to recommend the class now it was online and accessible from anywhere.

The rests history – she’s really enjoyed joining our  dance  class .

We both like sport and try to keep fit so it’s been really good to see my sister every week and be doing the same class . In normal times we do not see each other every week . So it really nice to be doing the class together .

As Barbara was already using Zoom to keep in touch with her grandson and missing attending her usual weekly dance class that was on hold she booked on to Keep Dancing From Home. Barbara has now danced every week with us since and sometimes even twice a week.

I’m so pleased that Linda introduced me to your classes, and you let me join. My weekly dancing with you all has given me something to look forward during this grim year and has helped to keep my body and brain fit.

Barbara also told us how Keep Dancing From Home has helped maintain her fitness and flexibility and kept the brain working trying to remember the routines. Barbara also joked that the sessions have given the family a few laughs too watching us both on our YouTube videos!

What was lovely to hear that Barbara now feels part of the keep dancing family of dancers only knowing her sister when she first started Barbara said it was good to see a family face but all the ladies and the instructors Faye and Faye were so welcoming I soon felt part of the group. ‘It has been great to meet lovely people, if only virtually. It has been a bonus that I can do it with my sister, ordinarily I’d never be able to do a class with Linda, so it’s been lovely to do something together and we’ve both looked forward to seeing each other. ‘

Xpress-Yourself, Company owner Faye O’Connor said that all of the Xpress-Yourself team have worked hard to keep the classes running with the same level of enthusiasm delivered when teaching in the halls. One of the joys for all teachers has being able to bring dancing friends together and provide our dancers with some social interaction with other people outside of their home. This strange time for everyone has highlighted how much we all miss seeing our family and friends and so it feels special that two sisters have seen each other more than they usually would under normal circumstances thanks to our Keep Dancing From Home classes.
