Carers Week June 2025

Carers Week June 2025 took place across the UK from Monday, 9th June, to Sunday, 15th June. The theme for this year was ‘Caring About Equality’, focusing on the inequalities faced by unpaid carers, such as increased risks of poverty, social isolation, and challenges to their mental and physical health. The week aims to raise awareness, celebrate the vital contributions of carers, and encourage better understanding and support for those caring for family, friends, or neighbours

Here at Xpress-Yourself Dance CIC we support carers. If you feel like you need additional support or advice we can make a referral to Birmingham Carers Hub. Please do just get in touch with us, we are happy to help.

We have collated all the information about Carers Week June 2025 into a handy blog for you! If you fancy a read follow the link here to access the blog.

Forward Carers Event

On Monday 9th of June 2025, our lovely volunteers went along to Forward Carers CIC Carers event 2025 at Symphony Hall in Birmingham to bang our Xpress-Yourself Dance drum 🥁 as part of carers week 2025!

We want to give a huge thank you to our very own ‘Pink Ladies’ Tina Hackett, Tina Warren, Tracey Coleman, Chris Spink and Barbara Hall who were on their feet all day and promoting our amazing classes at the event. They chatted, smiled, promoted and even had a dance or two! We couldn’t of done it without you ladies! 🩷

🎉 Julie’s Taking to the Skies – for Myeloma UK! ✈️💪

One of our incredible dancers, Julie, is about to take on an unforgettable challenge – a WING WALK – strapped to the top of a flying plane! 😱💨

Julie lives with multiple myeloma, an incurable blood and bone cancer. When she was first diagnosed, the prognosis was devastating – just 3 years to live. That was 3 years ago. Now, she’s defying the odds and flying high, celebrating life beyond the diagnosis.

Thanks to vital research and clinical trials supported by Myeloma UK, Julie has been able to keep dancing, dreaming – and now, flying. After a stem cell transplant and ongoing chemotherapy, she’s still living a life she never thought possible.

To celebrate:
🎈 Her 70th birthday
🧬 Her strength and survival
💛 And to raise much-needed funds for Myeloma UK

…Julie is taking on this sky-high adventure – and she needs your support! Every donation helps fund life-changing research and support for others living with myeloma.

👉 Please sponsor Julie here:

Thank you – and keep dancing! 💃

This month over on our Facebook page, Xpress-Yourself Dance began a new segment of Throwback Thursday! One Thursday a month we will highlight a year and we want to know your memories are of the year!

In June we highlighted 1994!

1994 was the year the TV sitcom ‘Friends’ debuted on NBC and Disney’s the Lion King came to the big screen! 📽️

Fun Fact: Did you know that Aerosmith became the first major band to offer fans a free, full length track for download from the internet in1994 🎶

We wonder what your memories were of 1994?

And if you fancy further reminiscing with your fellow dancers head over to our Facebook page!

ISE – Supporting Businesses and Empowering Communities

Cervical Screening Awareness Week June 2025

Cervical Screening Awareness Week June 2025,, took place from 19th to 24th June 2025 across the UK. This annual event is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of regular cervical screening (smear tests) for women’s health, highlighting that screening can prevent up to 75% of cervical cancer cases and save around 5,000 lives each year

Screening helps prevent cervical cancer by checking for human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause changes to the cells in the cervix. If cell changes are found, they can be treated before they have a chance to turn into cervical cancer.

For more information on how to support Cervical Screening Awareness week follow this link Cervical Screening Awareness Week 2025
