This year marks the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week. Every year, starting on the first Monday of June, the UK celebrates it’s incredible volunteers. It’s a chance to thank them for their commitment and contribution to our communities and of course society as a whole.
As well as helping organisations, charities and small businesses (to name just a few!), volunteering has been shown to help the individual’s mental health significantly. Helping others always feels good! You can read the quotes below and see what a positive impact volunteering has on everyone involved.
“Today I feel successful. 😊 When your participants volunteer their time to support your organisation to continue to be seen and develop it is truly humbling. It means that the services that I have developed are valued and appreciated which really is the biggest accolade. Here’s to asking for help and people supporting you.”
– Faye O’Connor
“I met your fantastic volunteers at Wednesday’s event at the MAC. I just wanted to drop you a line to say they were fantastic ambassadors for the classes and it was great to hear how valuable they find the sessions, including the online Carers sessions. Not only did these lovely ladies step up to volunteer, they brought smiles all round with their energy and spontaneous dance routines around the table!”
– Anna Smith (Forward Carers CIC)
“All in all, it was a really good day, we all said how much we enjoyed banging the drum for Xpress-Yourself, stressing to people that we were there because the classes had made such a big impact on us. Several people were surprised that we were participants and not instructors/company owners and there because Xpress-Yourself meant so much to us.”
– Tina Hackett – Volunteer/Keep Dancing Participant
